Blackwell's Island Span

New York, 1895

The Pencoyd bridge and construction company of Philadelphia has secured the contract for the iron work and construction of the bridge from Long Island City to New York over Blackwell's Island. It is the largest bridge contract ever let, and it will be the largest bridge in the world. The cost independent of the piers will be close to $8,000,000, and the total expenditure $10,000,000. There is wily one bridge with a longer span, the Forth bridge of Scotland.
