The proposed introduction of rapid transit service on the Long Island railroad between Long Island City and Flushing has been the principal topic of conversation among commuters for several weeks, but the first official announcement of a new schedule, which will go into effect on Feb. 4, is now made. The service is to be increased on week days from sixty-four trains to and from Flushing to 102 trains, and 68 of the 102 will be express trains. Local traffic is to be handled on the Whitestone branch. A reduction of from 20 to 30 per cent. is announced in fares.
