Supervisors of Kings and Queens Counties Favor the Lift Bridge.
The joint Supervisors' bridge committee of Kings and Queens counties held a meeting at the Town Hall in Jamaica on Tuesday afternoon. Supervisors Wright, Williams, Linneken and Boyd were present from Kings county, and Supervisors Everitt, Siebs and Denton from Queens. Supervisor Boyd presided.
Supervisor Everitt stated that owing to the condition of the bridge from ice and snow, two additional men had been appealed for, one for the Vernon avenue bridge, and one for the Blissville bridge. William Bird, of Kings county, and Henry Engerman, of Queens county, were appointed to serve as long a time as their services might be required.
Supervisor Linneken read a resolution passed by the Kings County board to build a lift bridge over Newtown Creek at Vernon avenue, and authorizing the bridge committee to have plans and specifications prepared for the construction of the bridge; also to have surveys, examinations and boreings made.
Supervisor Everitt said that the Queens County board had passed a similar resolution.
On motion of Supervisor Everitt, Engineer McLaughlin was appointed engineer to draw the plans and specification, make examinations, etc.
