Energetic efforts are being put forth by citizens of Long Island City to prevent the Union College company's tax bill, now before the Legislature, from becoming a law. Through this measure the College company seeks to get rid of about $300,000 back taxes on its property in Long Island City.
The subject was brought up at a meeting of the Republican city general committee Monday night, and it was unanimously agreed to submit the matter to a vote of the Republicans throughout the city, and primaries will be held Monday night.
