Republicans Stamp It as a Place-Grabbing Measure

New York, 1895

The Commissioner of Jurors bill, introduced by Assemblyman Vacheron, is arousing the Republicans all over his district. First it was thought that the measure would be a good thing for Republicanism. But now that the bill has been shown to be a place-grabbing affair the members of the various town organizations are protesting against it. A few nights ago the Republican Town Committee of Hempstead protested against the passage of the bill and stamped it as an obnoxious measure.

Garretson

It had been said that County Judge Garretson was in favor of the bill. The Judge represents the best Republican element in the county. He has now given out an interview in which he expresses himself satisfied with the way the jurors are now drawn and directly opposed to the Vacheron bill. — Brooklyn Eagle.
