The Blackwell's Island Structure Is Getting Under Way.
The promotors of the Blackwell's Island bridge across the East river from New York to Long Island City are pushing the preliminaries for the construction as fast as possible. The projectors are trying to buy the Schwalenberg Jackson avenue park property, containing thirty-four lots. Several attempts have been made by different parties to get possession of the property. The latest offer was made to William Schwalenberg on Tuesday, but Schwalenberg declined the offer.
Men are working daily on the abutment foundation on Blackwell's Island, while on the Long Island side the caisson is in readiness to be sunk.
