Childs Says the Finance Committee has Reported Favorably on it.
The trustees of the normal and training school at Jamaica held an informal meeting Saturday afternoon. Senator Childs stated that the finance committee of the Senate had reported his bill favorably for an additional appropriation of $50,000, and if there was no deadlock in the Senate, he expected to have the bill passed by that body so that it could be sent over to the Assembly in time for the committee meeting on ways and means on Wednesday afternoon.
Assemblyman Fairbrother, who was present, was requested to assist the committee in securing a speedy passage of the bill in the assembly. Mr. Fairbrother stated that Gov. Morton at the time of vetoing the Malby armory bill, said that among the appropriations to be provided for by the legislature would be an additional appropriation for the Jamaica normal school, and on the strength of that statement he thought the bill would meet with executive approval. Ex-Gov. Richard C. McCormick, chairman of the trustees of the school, is a personal friend of Gov. Morton, Lieut. Gov. Saxton and Speaker Fish, and will request them to assist the Long Island representatives in the speedy passage of the bill, as the trustees want to break ground for the school at an early date.
