New York, 1895
Zachariah Hallock of Northville, acting under instructions from Mr. Van Sythe, of the state experiment station, has planted ten acres of potatoes at his farm. Different varieties of seed have been used, as well as different brands of fertilizers, and different methods of tilling the crop during the season will be applied. The crops will be carefully noted at different periods during the season and the general results taken at the end of the season, which together will be published for the benefit of the state at large. The expense is to be borne by the state, out of the $8,000 appropriated by the legislature for agricultural experiments.
Two Burglaries at Smithtown.
Burglars effected an entrance into the post office at Smithtown Sunday night and stole stamps to the amount of a few hundred dollars. From there they went to the store of Conklin & Jayne at Smith, town branch, which they succeeded in entering. They blew open the safe but were frightened off before they had time to secure its contents.
