Building Fired at Whitestone

New York, 1895

Incendiaries are again at work at Whitestone. Morrill Squire's carpenter shop was gutted by fire at 1 A. M. Sunday. The building had not been used for upward of a year. Costly furniture was stored there belonging to Squire, among which were five handsome mantels, with large mirrors, worth $500. The building was valued at $1,000; no insurance.

An Ancient Document.

The Suffolk County historical society has received from Chauncey P. Howell of Mattituck the original deed of John Hullucke to Richard Howell, dated February 4, 1698, conveying the land where Riverhead village now stands.

Flushing Trustees Win.

Judge Cullen on Monday refused to dismiss the suit of the Village of Flushing against the Flushing Jockey club for an injunction restraining the club from conducting any horse races on its track before obtaining a license from the town authorities.

Post Bought in the Property.

A foreclosure sale of the property of James W. Hallock of Southampton was held Wednesday. The property was more than sufficient to satisfy the claims of Valentine Schenck, the mortgagee. The property was bought in by William Post of East Williston, for the benefit of Mr. Hallock.
