A Bicycle Race on Each Day of the June Exhibition.
The board of managers of the Agricultural Society held a meeting at Mineola on Saturday. President Thomas Mott presided. Director Van Nostrand was absent. Mr.Collins, architect of the new grand stand, appeared in relation to the tin roof, a portion of which was recently blown off. Mr. Collins said he was not responsible. The fault was with the foreman of the contractor for the tin work. He was, however, willing to pay one-third of the expense of having it replaced. The offer was accepted.
Secretary Hicks reported that he had received five bids for furnishing music for the June fair, as follows: Sea Cliff band, 12 men, $130; Grant S. Moore, Jamaica, 12 men, $120; Freeport band, 19 men, $120; Hicksville band, 12 men, $100; Port Washington band, $90. The offer of the Port Washington band was accepted.
Julius Schaff, of Hempstead, was appointed one of the judges of fruit in the place of John Duryea, who could not serve.
The following letter was received from M. M. Morse, president of the National Trotting Association:
Thomas H. Bacon, Treasurer Queens County Agricultural Society:
DEAR SIR — Your late favor dated May 25th to hand, and in reply would say that you should demand $125 paid to the nominator of "Queen Bess" in the 2.23 class, September 25, 1894, at your meeting, and then you can pay the owner of "Spendthrift" enough to make up the amount of first money, "Charles Eddy" enough to make up third money, and give the owner of "Barrata" fourth money. The judges book gives the nominator of Queen Bess as Deerfield Farm, 157 Franklin street, New York. If they do not comply with your demand within a reasonable time, you should order them suspended until they do. M. M. MORSE.
It was decided to have a bicycle race on each of the two days of the June fair, the race on the first day to be open to all.
Permission was given the woman's Christian temperance union to erect a tent on the grounds for the distribution of temperance literature.
Treasurer Bacon was authorized to pay the interest on the bonds of the society which falls due June 1.
The hostlers' privileges for the June fair will be sold at 2 P. M. on Saturday, June 8.
