New York, 1895
The Republicans of Queens County owe a very large debt of gratitude to the Brooklyn Times for its patriotic and uncompromising stand in exposing and condemning the vicious legislation which William J. Youngs and Assemblyman Vacheron have attempted to rush through the Legislature to the detriment of the Republican party. The Jamaica Standard has been the accomplice of Youngs and Vacheron, but it did not reckon that the great Republican daily paper of Long Island was a sentinel who could not be deceived, cajoled or persuaded to wink at any jockeying with legislation at Albany. The Brooklyn Times and Senator Childs in this crisis have done nobly. They have not only saved the Republican party in Queen County from dishonor, but they have been the guardian angels of the people. — Long Island City Herald, Republican.
