Tax Arrears Commission

New York, 1895

The Office Will be Established in the Village of Jamaica.

The members of the tax arrears commission, Messrs. Wood, Jones, Van Nostrand and Townsend, met at the Court House in Long Island City on Wednesday and organized by electing Mr. Van Nostrand, president, and Mr. Townsend, secretary.

The question of establishing a permanent office was discussed and Messrs. Jones, Wood and Townsend were appointed a committee to look for suitable quarters. There was no room in the Court House at Long Island City available for their use.

Yesterday the committee came to Jamaica and inspected the front room on the third floor of the County building. It is a large, well lighted room, with an alcove, and the commissioners decided to make it their headquarters.

The commission will meet at Long Island City to-day.
