The Long Island Loan and Trust Company is going to foreclose a mortgage of $100,000 against the Long Island City and Newtown railroad company, and application was made Monday to Justice Bartlett for a receiver. Lucien N. Manley had already been appointed a receiver in another suit against the road, and Justice Bartlett announced that he would also appoint him in the present case, unless there should be some hostility against his holding both places.
New Bridge Over Newtown Creek
Secretary Lamont on Tuesday approved plans for a new bridge to be constructed over Newtown Creek, between Vernon avenue, Long Island City, and Manhattan avenue, Brooklyn. The proposed bridge is to replace the present structure at that place, which has become an obstruction to the free navigation of the creek. Plans for a temporary bridge to be built near the avenues have also been approved. The temporary structure will be for the land travel pending the construction of the new bridge. The new bridge will be of the most improved pattern and have a lift draw, such as has been used in Chicago.
