New York, 1895
The highway commissioners met at the Town Hall, Jamaica, Tuesday. Commissioner Baker was absent. Henry Johnson, of Liberty avenue, Welcome G. Platt of Ozone Park, and Frank Mannie, presented petitions asking the commissioners to permit the Long Island electric railway company to pave the avenues and streets where they propose to lay their rails with cobble stone instead of granite blocks. The petitioners stated that they had not found a single person who was not only willing but eager to sign their petitions. The petitions were received and the board will give their decision on Saturday.
The map of the property taken by the town from John B. Hopkins was presented and filed with the town clerk.
Complaint was made that a culvert was broken on Farmers' avenue, west of Central avenue; also washouts on Central and Springfield avenues.
On motion of Commissioner Decker, the present road overseers were re-appointed for the ensuing year as follows: First district, John M. Zweig; second district, John Hendrickson; third district, George H. Remsen.
