A Committee of the Supervisors Meet to Discuss Toll Roads

New York, 1895

On the 10th of December the board of Supervisors, on motion of Supervisor Everitt, of Jamaica, passed the following resolution:

Resolved, That this board take into consideration the making of a free road from the line of the city of Brooklyn to the village of Hempstead and macadamize the same; and to ascertain the right of the Hempstead and Jamaica turnpike company and the Jamaica and Brooklyn road company to the parts of said road; and that a committee of three be appointed to examine into the matter and report to the board.

Supervisors Denton, Underhill and Everitt were appointed such committee.

The committee met at the Town Hall, Jamaica, on Tuesday afternoon. There were also present Charles Twombly, a committee from the village trustees, and John Adikes and R. H. Higbie, a committee from the business men's association.

The committee organized by electing Supervisor Everitt chairman and John Adikes secretary. Counselor Van Vechten not appearing an adjournment was taken until Tuesday, the 29th inst.
