New Year Day Presentation at the Chub Club Rooms.
The Chub Club rooms of Jamaica were the scene of a very pleasant gathering on Monday evening. The occasion was the presentation of a badge to Under Sheriff Baker. Chairman John H. Eldert in well fitting words made the presentation. Mr. Baker was so surprised he was unable to express his feelings for a few moments, but quickly recovered his speech, and made a pleasant reply.
The badge is a handsome piece of workmanship. It is of solid gold and studded with diamonds and rubies. The coat of arms of the state is of raised work and very beautiful in design. Upon the reverse side are the following : "Presented by the Chub Club January 1, 1895." After the presentation a repast was partaken of, followed by singing and speeches.
Among those present were Supervisor Everitt, Tax Receiver Haviland, Town Clerk McCook, Under Sheriff Baker, Justices Kissam and Lott, ex-Justice Bokee, Charles E. Twombly, F. J. Lott, Edwin Johanknecht, O. A. Sullivan, W. G. Powell, C. B. Gale, Coroner Everitt, G. L. Adams, Abram Wyckoff, B. F. Wood, W. L. Wood, John Eldert, John and James McLaughlin, Samuel Berger, Dr. T.
