Melted Snow and Ice Flooding the Highways

New York, 1895

The highway commissioners of Jamaica held a meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday. Commissioner Baker was absent. Commissioner Decker reported that the accumulation of ice and snow in the gutters on the Springfield road, from Central avenue to the plank road, was flooding the road bed with water. The commissioner was empowered to employ a man to open the gutters.

Complaint was made that there were several dangerous holes in the road bed of Ocean avenue near the meadows at Woodhaven.

Commissioner Wolff reported that Overseer Zweick would attend to the opening of the gutters in his district without compensation until such time as his successor was appointed.
